As far as I’m concerned this is THE place to go for Chinese food in the New Orleans area. Love the decor of the place. They also have a VERY limited Japanese sushi type menu and I decided to try the Ahi Poke Bowl from it. They said “bowl” but it came out in a mason jar. I guess one look at me and they sized me up as not worthy of a bowl. Either way, it was utterly delicious. Small cubes of raw, very fresh ahi tuna and the dressing was so good I would have been happy with just the dressing and won ton chips to dip in it.
The spare ribs served wet (you can also order them dry) with Asian BBQ sauce are excellent.
If you go the shrimp and lobster fried rice is a must try. Fried shrimp and lobster pieces along with scrambled egg in a perfect fried rice.
My daughter loves the Mongolian beef, but I’m not too crazy about it. It’s good but the meat is a little overcooked for my taste. Approaching a jerky texture.
The crab won tons are good, but nothing special. About what you’d get in any other Chinese place. Love this place.

I was in Spokane, WA, had the hankering for Chinese food, stumbled across a PF Chang’s, so I went in to partake!
If you love tea, they have a nice selection. The little black pots they put it in keeps it hot through your entire meal. And they use those expensive triangular tea bags. They’ll offer to refill the pot with more hot water, but won’t offer you another tea bag. You probably won’t need one though because these pots hold a good bit.
I had been craving a sushi roll for some time so I figured I’d try their Kung Pao Dragon Roll. A California roll topped with seared ahi tuna, sriracha, tempura crumbles and peanuts. Long ago I tried their lobster avocado roll and it wasn’t very good, so I was skeptical. This one was delicious! And peanuts sound out of place with sushi but they complimented it well.
Dynamite shrimp. Yummy. Combo fried rice? Eh. Nothing great. Their lobster and shrimp fried rice however is awesome. I’ve had that a few times in the past and it was always great. Go with that.
For dessert we tried the Vietnamese Chocolate Lava Cake. Not sure what makes it Vietnamese but it was very good. Not a true lava cake but like a little bundt cake with the middle filled with warm chocolate sauce. And the ice cream was real vanilla bean ice cream, complete with the seeds. Very good.

Back to P.F. Chang’s, the New Orleans suburb of Metairie, location. Again, I love these little teapots. Had a couple of favorites as an appetizer. The Kung Pao Dragon Roll and the BBQ Wok Seared Spare Ribs. Delicious as always, although this time I noticed they put pear slices in the slaw they serve with the ribs. That was pretty good! Went well with the ribs.
We tried the Kung Pao shrimp. Very good. Looks really spicy with all those dried, red chilies in it, but it wasn’t overly hot. We love the Mongolian Beef but decided to try something different, so we went with the Beef A La Sichuan. To me, the taste of white pepper is VERY distinctive and the beef in this dish had an overly powerful taste of white pepper. Well seasoned but not very spicy. Decent dish but I’d never order it again. Go with the Mongolian Beef.

Twice I’ve tried to get this Surf & Turf dish but was told they didn’t have it, because they make everything fresh and didn’t have everything needed. That I could believe. Everything always taste fresh. This time I finally got it! Delicious. I highly recommend it. The chunks of potato in it really go well with everything else.
We decided to try the Banana Spring Rolls for dessert. It came out with no ice cream on the plate and I started eating it that way until I noticed the ice cream in the picture! I immediately notified our waiter and he fixed the problem. It was ok, but definitely better with the ice cream. It seemed they fried it so fast the banana basically stayed “raw”, with a thin crust around it. So if the idea of eating a fresh banana with a little caramel sauce and thin, crispy crust appeals to you, go for it.
We also decided to try two mini desserts. The Triple Chocolate Happiness and the Miso Butterscotch Pudding. They brought out the chocolate one and a Strawberry and Coconut Cream Cake, saying they we’re out of the butterscotch one, so the strawberry one was on the House.
The chocolate one was pretty good, but the wet cake in the strawberry one was really mealy tasting with an overpowering coconut flavor. I didn’t like it at all.

SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT:
On Mother’s Day we had a terrible experience dealing with PF Chang’s. We put in our order for Mother’s Day lunch on the Wednesday before Mother’s Day. The restaurant was closed for dine in, so our order was for pickup. When we arrived, EVERY curbside designated pickup spot was taken, and the parking garage was gridlocked with traffic waiting for spots to open.
I saw some people waiting on the sidewalk and a PG Chang’s employee bring an order out and give it to someone. So I called, told them all the vehicle pick up spots were taken, so I’d be standing on the sidewalk waiting. I was told they couldn’t do that! That I HAD to be in a parking spot! I told them that wasn’t happening, plus I saw someone on the sidewalk get an order delivered to them, but if they couldn’t do the same thing for me, just cancel the order. So they did.
I sent an email to PF Chang’s telling them what happened, and after that fiasco I was done with their restaurant. They said they received too many orders that day and were overwhelmed. To make it up to me they sent me the certificate above for $25. Ok. No way I’m passing up $25 of free food, so today I was back in there!
They have people seated at every other booth and table, so everyone dining is nicely socially distanced. There are no bottles on the table. They bring you packs of soy sauce. I was disappointed to see this everywhere shrimp were mentioned on the menu:
I hate seeing that here in south Louisiana where we have so much great local seafood, but I guess if you’re part of a national chain you’ve got to serve what the chain sends you.
We decided on fried pork dumplings, crab wontons, Chang’s Spicy Chicken, and the Singapore Street Noodles.
And the food!
Everything was delicious! Especially the noodles. I saw another dish on the menu with the option of adding a fried egg on top for $1, so I requested that. Good call.
Very good dinner tonight. Nice to see they’re back open for dine in.
