Rita’s, West Palm Beach, FL Report #20

I finally escaped the New Orleans area for a little vacation.  In southeast Louisiana we have snowballs, or snowcones as some might say, but we don’t have frozen custard.  Lord I wish we did!

I had been to a Rita’s before in Alabama and loved it.  The Italian ice and frozen custard are utterly delicious.  You can get both of them in the same cup which is what I did.  They put down a base of frozen custard, Italian ice, then top it off with more frozen custard.  I had that with mango frozen ice and vanilla custard.  Get the large.  They’re so delicious you’ll kick yourself in the ass if you get a small one!  And I wouldn’t advise taking that challenge.  I think they’re trying to kill someone with a brain freeze.

Back at Rita’s and this time I decided to try a sundae.  Vanilla frozen custard, hot fudge, whipped cream and nuts.  Utterly delicious.  BUT don’t get a large, like I did.  You can’t tell from the picture but it’s huge!

If you’re a milkshake fan try a vanilla milkshake here. One of the best I’ve ever had!

This was the first place I tried Rita’s at. The Gulf Shores Alabama location. I had never noticed the little blue cards displayed next to the Italian Ices. Those are the flavors they have made fresh that day. Today my dining partner had the mango gelati, which was a mango Italian Ice and frozen vanilla custard combo, and I had a chocolate sundae made with frozen vanilla custard. Delicious.

And not pictured, but the next day I had banana split flavored Italian Ice. Got it to go and enjoyed it on the beach, which is only a couple blocks away. It was AMAZING!

Driving back to New Orleans guess what I found in Foley, Alabama? Another Rita’s! I tried a gelati made with wild black cherry Italian Ice and frozen vanilla custard. Unbelievably delicious! The ice had little pieces of black cherries in it. Love this place.
