The Big Cheezy, New Orleans, LA Report #44

********** PERMANENTLY CLOSED **********

New Orleans is known as the “Big Easy”.  The name of this place is obviously a play on that.  I was playing around on Facebook and saw an ad where if you signed up for their VIP club you get a free grilled cheese sandwich.  I signed up, they e-mailed me a coupon, so since I like being regular I took a dietary fiber supplement and headed uptown.

The Magazine St. location is located in the back of a bar.  Which is good and bad.  It’s good because if you want a pitcher of beer with your meal you can just walk into the bar and get it.  It’s bad because a fight could break out at anytime.  Or worse.   Tiny place, with just a little inside seating and five umbrella covered picnic tables outside.  I guess if you don’t have kids you could always go sit and the bar and eat.  Actually, being New Orleans no one would give a damn.  Take your kids in the bar and eat.

Grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup are an American tradition, so the only soup they offer is a tomato basil.  I’m not a fan of tomato soup but I’ve tried theirs in the past and it was pretty good.  I’ve also tried “The Original” and the “Cheezy Melt” steak burger.  Both were very good.  Today I decided on the “Shrimp Remmy”.  It was delicious.  Cheesy, buttery, grilled perfectly, and with a hint of horseradishy remoulade sauce.  Also, I’m not a fan of waffle fries OR seasoned fries, but these are very good.  Very crispy and very lightly seasoned.  Not with a heavy  “crust” of seasoning like you get at some places.

If you have a craving for grilled cheese head to this place.  I’m not really sure how you could mess up a grilled cheese sandwich so I’m not giving them much of a compliment, but theirs are very good!
