The Cheesecake Factory, Metairie, LA Report #49

This is a chain.  I’d never think about reviewing a chain like Applebee’s or Friday’s, but this place is special.  It’s a chain that doesn’t serve chain type food.  The food is great and the place is beautiful.  The menu is also VERY extensive.  Over 20 pages, so I couldn’t take pics of all of it.  Sometimes that’s bad.  Some menus are so extensive they try to do too much and as a result the food quality suffers.  Not here.

I love the bread they serve here.  Hot and crusty.  I’m not sure what the darker bread is but both are delicious.  I could come here just to eat the hot bread and butter!

I’ve been here several times before.  One of my favorite appetizers are the Crispy Cuban Rolls and one of my favorite entrees is the Steak Diane.  But today we went with another favorite app.  The Buffalo Blast!  They’re like chicken wontons but you don’t really taste a wonton wrapper.  It’s like you’re eating a solid piece of chicken.  Served with a delicious buffalo sauce and a VERY chunky blue cheese dressing for dipping and fried extremely crispy.  These are a must try.  We also tried something I hadn’t noticed on the menu before.  Truffle-Bacon Grilled Cheese Sticks.  They were like little grilled cheese and bacon sandwiches with a delicious marinara sauce for dipping.  Very good.  I will get these again.

I wanted to try the Bang Bang Chicken and Shrimp but they were out of it.  First time that ever happened on my many visits here, so I decided to try the Bistro Shrimp Pasta.  We also had the Spicy Cashew Chicken.  Both were utterly delicious.

And you can’t come to a place called The Cheesecake factory without trying cheesecake!  I did take a pic of the cheesecake menu so you could see the serious variety.  We tried the Pumpkin and Pumpkin Pecan and the Dulce De Leche Caramel Cheesecake.  I’m not a fan of pumpkin spice flavored stuff so I didn’t really care much for that one, but if you like pumpkin spice flavored things merged with pecan pie, you’d love this one.  The Dulce de Leche one was delicious.

Again, I’ve been here numerous times and this place is consistently delicious.  I highly recommend it.

SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT:

I mentioned above I’ve been here numerous times and never had a bad meal.  They broke that streak today.  We had the Buffalo Blast chicken appetizer and the couple pieces I ate I could hardly find any chicken in it.  First couple bites I just got batter and some cheese.  I figured I just missed the chicken.  No.  The whole thing was like that.  A few shreds of chicken.  Not good at all.

I tried the Dynamite Shrimp for the first time.  They were very good.  A nice fluffy but crisp tempura batter and nice size shrimp.  The Spicy Dynamite Sauce wasn’t spicy at all.  Kind of like a remoulade sauce heavy on the mayo, but it went well with the shrimp.

I had been craving pizza for a couple of days so I ordered one.  I’m normally a pretty carnivorous person but I wasn’t in the mood for a meat topped pizza.  I wanted something lighter and cleaner.  So I opted for the Margherita pizza.  Cheese, basil and tomato sauce.  Simple, light and delicious.  At least that’s what I was hoping for.  It would have been pretty good except the crust was hard.  Not crispy, but hard.  Like they baked a pizza crust, put it in the fridge for a couple days, took it out, microwaved it, realized they didn’t need it so put it back in the fridge for a day, THEN took it out and made a pizza on it.  It was like cardboard.  It tested the strength of my teeth.

Oh, and over the pizza you can get a glimpse of my dining companions Spicy Cashew Chicken.  It’s her favorite dish and they ruined it by drowning it in an overly salty, teriyaki/soy sauce tasting sauce.  She ordered a bowl of rice to try to combat the excessive amount of sauce but it was no use.  It was terrible.

Well, the place is called the Cheesecake Factory, so you’ve got to give them a chance to redeem themselves with a slice of cheesecake for dessert, right?  I love anything banana, so we decided to finish with Fresh Banana Cream Cheesecake.  It was “ok” at best.  As far as cheesecakes go, it was more cakey than cheesey.  It’s hard to explain.  Kind of mealy, not creamy and smooth at all.  Decent banana flavor though.  I enjoyed the fresh sliced bananas with the whipped cream as much as the cheesecake.

So today they dropped the ball.  I’ve had too many good experiences though to write them off because of one bad one.  Maybe the chef was drunk today.  Who knows.

  1. Had a HORRIBLE experience at the one we went to in Ohio. Horrible. Worst ever anywhere. Lol. The food WAS good. I only stayed long enough for it because we were with Phl’s Daughter and her roommate. Serious management problems at that one.
