Parran’s Po-Boys And Restaurant, Metairie, LA Report #86

Located in a little strip mall on Veterans Hwy. in Metairie, this is a great place for po-boy sandwiches.  Down south here the word “Parran” means Godfather and “Nannan” means Godmother.  A little tidbit of info if you didn’t know.  Plenty of seating with multiple dining rooms.  They also serve a lot more than po-boys but that’s all I’ve ever gotten here.  I didn’t know until today they were the self proclaimed originator of the seafood muffuletta.

Pictured are a large order of fries and a small order of fried pickles.  If you have two people you definitely want to go with a large order of fries.  I’m still not sure why anyone would want to eat a fried pickle but my dining companion loves them, so we got some.  Bleh.  Just to report to all of y’all I ate one.  They weren’t too salty and seasoned well, so I guess I can say these are “good” fried pickles.  Again, bleh.

We split two classic New Orleans po-boys.  You don’t have to tell them to cut them in half.  They do that automatically.  Hot roast beef with gravy and fried shrimp.  We ordered both “dressed”, which normally means they come with tomatoes, lettuce, pickles and mayo, but these had no pickles on them.  Both sandwiches were delicious.  The French bread is always fresh and crusty.  The roast beef was tender and the brown gravy on it was very tasty.  The shrimp were fried crisp and seasoned very well.  If you have the urge for a po-boy I highly recommend this place.

I actually drove out here to get some burgers from Mooyah.  I have their app, and they keep sending me deals, so I asumed they were open.  They were closed!  So I crossed the street and came here.

In these trying Coronavirus times, ease of ordering and getting your food is appreciated.  This place gets an A+ in that catagory.  You can walk inside, look at a menu, give them your order, and sit inside or outside to wait for it.  They have several chairs responsibly socially distanced from each other.

Besides what’s pictured, we had a shrimp po-boy and a hot sausage one.  Both were very good.  Pictured are a meatball, Canadian bacon and pepperoni pizza, and a Prime Rib poboy.  That poboy comes with a horseradish sauce and au jus for dipping.  Yummy.

Great place to come and scratch your pizza or po-boy itch!

I’m so glad this pandemic is winding down and paces are opening back up to dine in! And especially this place. If you’re still nervous about dining out, all of the tables here are spaced out really nicely.

We decided on the Seafood Trifecta, 4 piece mixed spicy fried chicken, and a large order of fries.

The FOOD!

Everything was excellent. The fries and the chicken were both hot, crisp and delicious, and the po-boys were fantastic. Perfectly fried seafood on fresh, French bread.

Love this place. Come on in!

Lunch here today. As far as social distancing the place is really big, so there’s plenty of distance between tables, and they have a good bit of tables!

Fried crawfish on bun was overloaded with so many fried crawfish tails there wasn’t enough room for them on the bun. Great fries and delicious pizza.

During Lent I’m eating healthy everyday except Sunday’s. Tonight we were headed to Bobby Hebert’s because I saw a grilled redfish salad that I was going to try. But when we got there there was a 45 minute to an hour wait for a table. I was way too hungry to wait that long. On the way there we passed Parran’s and I noticed they were open. I pulled up their menu online to see if they had anything healthy and saw the below salad menu. So we dropped in!

We decided on a grilled chicken and a blackened shrimp salad with Balsamic vinegar and olive oil on the side.

&&&&&&&&&& THE FOOD &&&&&&&&&&

Both salads were delicious! The shrimp were more sautéed or grilled than blackened, but either way they were delicious. Both salads were so good in fact my dining partner used no dressing and I used very little.

Never thought I’d come in a po-boy place to eat healthy, but if you need to, it’s possible here!

Back again for dinner tonight. Never had the gumbo before. It’s very good! So were the cheese fries.

We tried their combo pizza, which they call Henry’s Supreme Pizza. A cheese pizza topped with Canadian bacon pepperoni, Italian sausage, mushrooms, onions, bell peppers and black olives. Excellent. Nice crisp crust and generous toppings.

And finally, the Seafood Trifecta poboys. A small catfish, small shrimp, and a small oyster poboy. They really know how to fry seafood here. Outstanding!

If I didn’t live so far away from this place I’d be in here a LOT more often!

Back tonight for dinner! If you’re looking for oysters, they currently don’t have any. We decided on:

((((( THE FOOD )))))

Everything was delicious! I highly recommend the shrimp tacos. Dressed with cole slaw and a great remoulade sauce. Yum.

The end.

This has to be one of my most reported on places. I realized I never tried a simple burger here before, because they have so much other good stuff. Today, I tried it. A double patty one, dressed.

EXTREME CLOSEUP

I just had to include an extreme closeup so you could see how juicy those burger patties were. An outstanding burger! End of report.
