I don’t get down into St. Bernard parish much, but when I do I eat at Rocky and Carlo’s! I’m not sure about this place, though. If you look at the second picture above you’ll see they advertise “Ladies Invited”. I think that’s a mistake. It’s probably all downhill from here.
BUT, since I had one with me, I was glad to see that. I hate when I have to leave my lady outside when I go out to eat! We decided on Fried Onion Strings, Veal Parmesan with macaroni and cheese, Fried Chicken, with macaroni and cheese and Bread Pudding.
Our waitress asked us if we wanted bread. We did. She brought us a nice size piece of a French bread loaf. Instead of real butter you’ll get packs of a whipped spread, which is 48% vegetable oil. But don’t worry about that. If you’re concerned about your health that’s the LEAST of your problems in this place!
Take a little advice. No matter what you order, the portions are huge. Don’t even try to eat everything. Plan to take some home. I tried to eat everything. It hurt. Don’t be like Blaine.
I kind of thought being cut so thin, the onion strings would be greasy. They weren’t! And they were very good.
The Veal Parmesan was pretty good. One thing unique about this place is you can order your macaroni and cheese with either brown or red gravy (basically spaghetti sauce), on it or on the side. I got brown gravy on mine, and my dining partner got red on the side. The brown gravy has chunks of roast beef “debris” in it. Soooooo delicious! And the mac n cheese itself is delicious. I needed a good mac n cheese after the terrible one I had at the last place I reported on (Report #192).
When we ordered the fried chicken they told us it’d take 25 minutes. That’s the way it should be! I love chicken fried to order. And this chicken was excellent. You get four pieces. Leg, thigh, breast and wing. Crunchy, juicy and seasoned perfectly.
When the chicken came my dining partner decided she preferred the brown gravy instead of the red, and asked our waitress if she could get some. No problem at all. She promptly came back with a big cup of it.
Lastly, I was kind of disappointed the bread pudding and sauce was sold cold out of a refrigerated case (second to last picture). Before I had a chance to dig into it our waitress asked if I wanted her to heat it up for me. I did. She warmed it up with the sauce on top. This was one of the best bread puddings I ever had!
Great place! I give it two thumbs up AND a toe! I highly recommend it.

SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT:

Long overdue for a return visit, but today we made it happen! We ordered a stuffed artichoke, jambalaya, a Wop salad, and fried chicken and veal cutlets both with macaroni covered in brown gravy.
***** THE FOOD *****

Everything was great! I fail to learn from my mistakes. We could have just ordered the fried chicken plate and split it. The pictures don’t do justice to how much food this was. We ended up taking home a huge to-go plate.
Love this place.

If you’re into history it’s right by the Chalmette Battlefield. It’s where the Battle of New Orleans was fought.
