Royal Sushi & Bar, New Orleans, LA Report #217

The last time I was in this building it was a Thai restaurant named Sukho Thai.  Great Thai food, by the way.  I heard this place has fantastic Ramen, and since we’re having a cool snap here in New Orleans (84 degrees, it’s cloudy and raining), I decided to come get a bowl!

This is what I decided on:

You can build your own Ramen bowl here.  First you chose your meat.  I decided on the combination seafood, which consisted of salmon, shrimp, squid and scallops.  Next, is your broth.  I picked Spicy Tonkotsu.  For my noodles, ramen, and I passed on any extra topping.

I also ordered a Tchoupitoulas (pronounced Shop-it-oolas) Roll.

And the food:

The Ramen came out in a large, funnel shaped bowl.  I have no problem saying it was the best I’ve ever had.  The broth was utterly delicious.  A half of a marinated egg was floating on top, and with one spoonful of broth, I scooped the egg yolk out and ate it. That spoonful was one of the tastiest things I had ever eaten in my life!  The squid in it was very tender, and all the rest of the seafood was cooked perfectly.

The sushi roll was also excellent.  I’m always leery about rolls with cream cheese, because sometimes they put too much in it and that’s all you can taste.  Not the case here.  It had the perfect amount of cream cheese to compliment the fresh fish.  And the entire roll was flash fried, so the seaweed on the outside had a nice crispness to it without being greasy or oily at all.

There were so many other things on the menu I wanted to try I started to order more food.  Thank God I didn’t.  A bowl of Ramen and one sushi roll is plenty of food!  And I’m a pretty big eater.  But I will be back to try more.

Great place.  I highly recommend it!

SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT:

Pan fried pork Gyoza dumplings, spicy Yellowtail Handroll, Rainbow Roll and Shrimp Hibachi Fried Rice.  Everything was great!

SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT:

Back again.  The weather is still a little cool so that was my excuse for some ramen tonight.  But of course we had more.  Shrimp Shumai, a salmon skin roll, a crawfish roll, and smelt row sushi.  If you’ve never had salmon skin it’s like salmon bacon!  And of course a bowl of Spicy Pork Tonkotsu Ramen.  Everything was delicious!  Love this place.
