The Rum House, New Orleans, LA Report #255

I actually came to Magazine St. today for breakfast, but the restaurant I was trying to go to had a 30 minute wait for a table.  Luckily, I’m lazy, and I slept so late it was lunch time!  So I came in here for lunch.

I’ve heard people talk about how good the tacos were here, so I assumed this was a Mexican restaurant.  But they describe themselves as a Caribbean Taqueria. You’ll see the type of menu items here you’d find in the Caribbean.  Jerk seasoned things, curries with coconut, plantains, etc.  And as the name implies a large selection of rums and rum based drinks.

There were so many intriguing and different tacos on the taco menu, I decided to go with the Taco Trifecta dinner.  Three tacos and one side.  I chose the Brisket, Lamb Vindaloo and Chipotle Shrimp tacos.  For my side I ordered the Coconut Mango Rice.  I also got the Avocado Mango Dip.

And the food:

The Avocado mango Dip was really good.  The guacamole wasn’t one of those heavy ones full of mayo or sour cream.  Very light and refreshing.  I loved the way the mango went with it, and the tortilla chips were nice and fresh.

All three of the tacos were delicious.  I’m not sure which one I liked best!  The mint yogurt chutney and plantains went great with the lamb.  The chipotle shrimp were fantastic too.  And the rice was a great side dish.

If you’re tired of the same old same old when it comes to tacos, I definitely recommend this place!
