RiverShack Gretna, Gretna, LA Report #260

If you ignore the construction going on in front, this is a nice looking place.  I’m not sure what they’re doing with the construction, but I saw a bunch of potted plants out there, so landscaping is in the near future.  It’ll probably be nicer looking then!

This place is located right on the Mississippi River. I took the third picture from the top of the levee so you could see the rooftop seating.  If you sit up there,  the fourth picture is the view you’d have.  The city of New Orleans on the other side of the river. Simply lovely.

If you’re a beer drinker you’d like this place.  They have 30 beers on tap.  A lot of local ones, other domestic and foreign brews.  I hate having to ask for condiments so I love the buckets on the tables.  All the ketchup, mustard, mayo, hot sauce and I think remoulade sauce you want.

We decided on the Garbage Fries, Black And Bleu Burger, Hot Sausage Poboy and bread pudding for dessert.

And the food!

If you come here you’ve got to get the Garbage Fries.  They were FANTASTIC!  Plenty of tender roast beef and brown gravy on top, along with caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms and jalapeños.  Served with sour cream and ranch dressing.  Utterly delicious!

The burger was good.  The bacon on it was nice and crisp and there was a good bit of blue cheese.

The poboy was also good.  They use Patton’s hot sausage, which in my opinion is one of the best hot sausages made.  I just wish they’d use one of the best French breads made. Not sure what it was, but it wasn’t crusty at all.  Very soft.  But still a great sandwich.

I didn’t care for the bread pudding.  It was very sweet and really dense.  Some people might like that, but I prefer mine lighter, with more of a pudding consistency.  The sauce had a really strong whisky or rum flavor.  That I do like!

Great lunch.  I recommend this place!

    1. A popular sandwich here is a hot roast beef poor boy with gravy on it. They cook the roast beef in the gravy until it’s falling apart tender. When they spoon the gravy on the sandwich it has bits of beef in it, and they call that “debris”. The garbage thing is a take on that.
