This is my last king cake of the Mardi Gras season. A friend told me about how wonderful Antoine’s king cakes were, and they are good. We went through three of them since the Mardi Gras season began. I had forgotten about how much I loved Hi-Do’s king cakes last year, so for a get together Saturday, I got a large, cream cheese filled one. Oh my God. It was delicious! I had to try a lemon filled, which this one is. Also unbelievably delicious.
Antoine’s king cakes, and many others, are like large cinnamon rolls. These are more like traditional king cakes. Kind of a bread instead of a cake or roll. And other filled king cakes are filled in spots, and plain in others. Every inch of Hi-Do’s cakes are filled! But they’re so good I’d be happy with a plain one.
In my opinion they make the best king cakes around! Sorry to reveal this so late in the season you might not have a chance to get one this year. Make a note for next year!

It’s that time of year again! My first king cake of the Mardi Gras season. I went at lunch time and the line wasn’t too bad to get one. I was out of there in less than 10 minutes.
Also, I reached out to squeeze that French bread before I noticed the “Stale Bread” sign. I though, “Damn, this bread is hard as hell”! But I’m glad to see they sell stale bread. I made a bread pudding for Christmas and needed some. Good thing I decided to make it in advance so I had time to buy a French bread and let it go stale. Sometimes stale ones can be hard to find.
Delicious king cakes. This is a cream cheese filled. Y’all gotta try one!

Getting ready for parades this Mardi Gras weekend with a large, cream cheese filled king cake! Bottle of hot sauce on it for scale. Also, decided to try a Boston Cream Croissant. But when I cut it open,,,,,,

It was almost completely empty! Still delicious though. Would have been awesome if there was more Bavarian cream in it.

King Cake is on my list to try. Mardi Gras is not big in SF but I saw after reading your post that there are several bakeshops in the Bay Area that sell King Cakes. Maybe next year. I want the real ones from New Orleans, though! Your pictures look delicious!

So are the ones in the pictures, Hi Do’s or Antoine’s? I love the fact that they don’t have all that yucky icing on them. Bring me one when you’re on the East Bank. lol Thanks!

The ones in the pics are Hi-Do. You’ll love them! Know who first told me about that place? Carl Perilloux. He would cross the lake for their cinnamon rolls.
