This place is technically called Bear’s Poboys at Gennaro’s because it’s in the same building as a very old Metairie bar that carries that name. It was also called that to differentiate them from their other location on Veterans Blvd, which sadly closed down due to this Coronavirus pandemic.
We had to sit outside today, but they told us starting Monday they would have six tables open for indoor dining. If you decide to come in, I’d suggest you call ahead and place your order. We didn’t, and it took about 40 minutes for us to get our food. They were filling a lot of to go orders.
We decided on:
I mentioned earlier it took awhile for our food to come out, but it was worth the wait! The boudin balls were perfect. Sometimes boudin balls have too much meat in them, so it’s like eating a fried meatball. The boudin in these had the perfect ratio of meat and rice. They were fried nice and crisp, and the dipping sauces were yummy.
In my picture the gravy cheese fries look terrible. That’s about how they looked in real life. But how would you expect French fries to look that had been covered in molten Cheddar and Swiss cheese, then covered in a rich brown gravy with shreds of roast beef in it? Yep. Terrible! But they were delicious. I’d definitely get these again.
Both poboys were very good. The bread was nice and fresh and they were generous with dressing them.
Great place. I recommend it!
