We love cutting down a real tree for Christmas. Today was opening day for our favorite Christmas tree farm, which happens to be located across Lake Pontchartrain, north of New Orleans. So we crossed the longest, continuous bridge over water in the world, the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, and of course that made us hungry so we had to stop to eat!
I was in the mood for pizza so we stopped at this little joint we found in a small strip mall. We got there right when they opened so we had the entire place to ourselves.
I love cream of artichoke soup, so when I saw the sign advertising it as the soup of the day, I ordered it. Unfortunately that sign hadn’t been updated. Our waiter informed us the actual soup of the day was crawfish and corn. Even better! I ordered a cup of that, and we ordered the Meatballs Al Forno as an appetizer. My dining partner got the sandwich and salad combo, with a Muffuletta and a Caesar salad, and I ordered a small Shrimp Pesto pizza.
The soup was delicious! And there was a good bit of crawfish meat in it.
The bread that came with the meatball appetizer was very good. A little hot flatbread with some grated cheese on top. But the meatballs? Forget about them. They tasted like the little frozen meatballs, that are mostly bread, you can buy in the supermarkets when you’re too lazy to make your own. In fact, I asked our waiter about them and he said they bought them pre-made from a food delivery company.
My dining partner said her Muffuletta and salad were pretty good.
My Shrimp Pesto Pizza was fantastic! A nice crisp crust, and loaded with shrimp and whole cloves of roasted garlic.
Coming in we noticed a frozen custard shop at the other end of the strip mall called Moo Moo’s. We headed there for dessert!
Pretty good lunch. I’d definitely return for the pizza!
