I was perusing one of my favorite foodie pages on social media and someone mentioned this place. I looked it up and read the reviews. People raved about it! And I was in the mood for Italian so we headed down to the French Quarter to give it a try.
The sign outside is just a black and white picture of the face of the Mona Lisa. Tiny, cozy little place, plastered with all kinds of different depictions of the Mona Lisa. I like it!
We decided to split the Mona Lisa Special pizza and the Mardi Gras pasta.
#################### THE FOOD ####################

The pasta came with a house or Caesar salad. We opted for a Caesar. It was served with a slice of a cheesy, garlic bread type pizza slice. Very good!
On the combo pizza we ordered you had the option of adding jalapeños or anchovies. I’m an anchovy lover. My dining partner hates them. So I asked for anchovies on half of the pizza. In the end it didn’t matter because they gave us jalapeños on half of the pizza. Granted, “jalapeños” and “anchovies” do sound alike. Earlier I had lunch at The Palms too and they also screwed up my order. Just a bad luck day for me I guess!
However, the pizza was also very good. We had a small which comes with 6 slices and was perfect for splitting.
The pasta was great. Loved the creamy Creole red sauce. Like a tomatoey Alfredo, but not too tomatoey. Plenty of shrimp in it, too. But I thought the portion size could have been bigger.
Pretty good dinner. I saw a lot of other things I wanted to try on the menu so I’ll be back!
