This place is located at the end of a very short strip mall on LA Hwy 23, also known as Belle Chasse Hwy. Keep heading south on that highway and it dead ends at the Gulf of Mexico, at the “toe” of Southeast Louisiana. I pass this restaurant pretty often going down to the Navy base, which is on the same highway, but never considered stopping. Recently, I’ve heard a couple different people talk about how good the food was here, so we decided to stop in for lunch.
We started off with some queso as an appetizer. My dining partner decided on the Sampler Jalapeño, from the appetizer section of the menu, along with a side order of rice and beans. I went with the Enchiladas El Tri, with a side order of a Cheese Chili Relleno!

The obligatory chips and salsa were very good. Especially the chips. I’m pretty sure they came right out the fryer! Hot and very crisp.
The queso was good too, but I’m not sure how melted cheese could ever be bad.
My dining partner is a chimichanga expert. She said these were the best she’s ever had. Mainly because of the way they were fried. The crust wasn’t doughy at all, and not too crisp. She also enjoyed everything else on the platter.
My enchiladas were fantastic! Instead of ground beef in the beef one, the meat was more like little chunks of steak. Same with the chicken. Little chunks of chicken instead of pulled or shredded chicken. Both tender and juicy. The rice, beans and guac were also great.
I’m a self proclaimed chili relleno expert. I judge Mexican restaurants by their rellenos. I’m so happy when I ordered this one our waiteress told me it came with red sauce on top. I don’t care for that. I like melted cheese on top, and she made it happen. Delicious chili relleno. The pepper was a nice size, nice and tender, fried up just right with the perfect amount of cheese.
I recommend this place. I will be back!
