I’m in Flowood, Mississippi! That’s right outside of Jackson. I’m here because there’s about to be a category 4 hurricane back in New Orleans. This is actually the first time in my life I evacuated for a hurricane. I’ve been through every hurricane to hit New Orleans since 1965. I think I deserve a break!
Anyway, evacuating makes me hungry. I heard through the grapevine I should check this place out. Their website says they’re, “a Casual-Euro American Bistro”. Uh, ok. I don’t know about all that. I just want some good food!
We decided on:
########### THE FOOD ###########
The Pork Bites consisted of smoked chunks of pork belly and pork meatballs. Outstanding! The pork belly was nice and tender. The brown mustard glaze it was served with was perfect.
I was curious to see how these Mississipians would do with gumbo. I was glad to see a dark roux, like a real Cajun country gumbo. It was delicious. Plenty of shredded duck meat in it and a real good flavor.
My dining partner had the bbq ribs. I dropped a fork under the table and asked her to get it for me. That distracted her long enough for me to grab a rib off her plate. Very good!
I had the short ribs. Doesn’t look like much in the picture but it was a healthy serving of beef. Too much for me to finish in fact, but I tried my best. Fork tender, and served over some very creamy grits. Another outstanding dish!
If we weren’t so stuffed we would have ordered the Bananas Foster (prepared tableside) for dessert. That’s something everyone should experience.
Great place and fantastic meal. I highly recommend this place!
