Pho Bang Restaurant, Gretna, LA Report #420

I was in the mood for Vietnamese food for lunch today. My absolute favorite place for Vietnamese, Tan Dinh, is now closed on Sundays. I’ve been seeing this place forever and never tried it, so I figured today was as good a day as any to check them out.

Looks like the sign on the outside of their building took a beating from Hurricane Ida. The first thing I noticed when I walked into the dining room was something utterly shocking. The Saints are playing today, but they had the Green Bay and Cincinnati game on tv! That’s a mortal sin in the New Orleans area. But it hit me that they may be a big fan of former LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, who now plays for Cincinnati. That had to be it, so I gave them a pass.

I decided on:

##### the food #####

Everything was very good.

The spring rolls tasted nice and fresh. They put a shot of Sriracha hot sauce in the peanut dipping sauce, which was delicious.

I love the chewy texture of tendon and trip in my pho. This bowl had plenty of both. And the fatty brisket was very tender with a great flavor.

The chargrilled pork in the vermicelli bowl was fantastic.

Very good lunch here today. I recommend the place!

      1. I was looking for something different around 15 years ago and I feel in love with their food.

        That is really cool history.

      2. The newspaper article got more into it. If you saw the pics on that website the old white guy was in the military and stationed in Vietnam. The dad owned a bunch of pho restaurants there. Like the McDonald’s of Saigon. He wanted to date the daughter, but he was like 18 or 19 and the daughter was 15. So the dad said get up the street you American pervert. But he kept hanging around, his persistence paid off, then the north Vietnamese came in and they lost all their restaurants and fled here.
