Redfish Pizza, Kenner, LA Report #465

For being on a main street, this place is really off the beaten path. If you look at the maps above in the 3rd and 4th pictures, it’s about the last thing you find before you hit Lake Pontchartrain and can’t go any further. So why even come this way? There is a Riverboat Casino docked on the lake past it, but they have a restaurant in it. So how did I end up here?

Well, as you can also see on the map there’s a Golden Corral nearby. It’s the only one in the New Orleans area. I saw on a TV commercial that they had all you can eat BBQ ribs, and shamefully, I was planning on going there and pigging out. I was stooping to the level of going for quantity over quality. But plans change, and in this case it turned out to be a good thing!

But when we got to this place I was a little nervous. The parking lot was completely empty. Then when we walked in the restaurant it was completely empty! That’s not a good sign!

We ordered beer battered fries and the Jack Daniels chicken wings for starters. The Redfish and a Muffuletta mini pizza, manicotti, and a scoop of gelato for dessert.

I don’t like battered fries, but the idea of beer battered fries intrigued us, so we decided to give them a try. Very good! The batter is so light you can hardly tell they were battered. And they were fried very crisp.

The chicken wings were excellent! We only got one of the leg portion wing pieces. The rest were flats, but that’s my favorite piece. They also were fried very crisp, and the sauce was great.

The manicotti was good! As was the buttery garlic bread.

Then there was the pizza. I like that they offer a “mini” size so you can try more than one.

When I ordered it, the waitress said it only came with a thin crust. The menu described it as having a home-made mayo sauce and a “crab mix”. Didn’t really sound appealing but since it was named after the restaurant, I had to give it a try.

This was honestly one of the best pizzas I ever had! The shrimp were small, but there were so many you got shrimp in every bite. And the flavor of the pizza was really seafoody and delicious!

My dining partner had the Muffuletta pizza with the hand tossed crust and loved it.

On the gelato case there was a logo saying it was a certified Louisiana product. I’d brag about that for gumbo or jambalaya, but gelato? I went ahead and tried a scoop of the coffee flavor. Took me awhile to get it because our server couldn’t find the ice cream scoop! I told her she didn’t have to be fancy. Just grab a spoon and throw some in a cup. Which she did.

It really liked it! I don’t like overly sweet desserts, and this wasn’t very sweet at all, but it had a strong coffee flavor. I like my desserts like my women. Strong and cold!

Very good dinner. Give this place a try!
