Streetcar Cafe, New Orleans, LA Report #713

We had no plans on eating lunch here today. We were in the area attempting to eat at a restaurant down the street which, according to their website, was supposed to be open today, but they were closed! I should know now no matter what a website says it doesn’t hurt to call first. So we saw this place and decided to come check them out.

It was close to noon when we walked in and we were told we could order off both sides of the menu. Meaning you could still order breakfast. Here’s a link to their menu: https://streetcarcafe.com/new-orleans-street-car-cafe-food-menu

My dining partner, who’s a coffee lover, decided to try a butter pecan latte. I ordered a cup of jambalaya for an appetizer. Our entrées were a 1/2 shrimp poboy with a cup of gumbo and a catfish poboy with fries. Dessert was bread pudding with ice cream.

My dining partner enjoyed her latte. She said it had a great flavor.

The jambalaya was pretty good. The rice was cooked perfectly and it had a decent amount of chicken and sausage in it, but it definitely could have been seasoned more. But remember, that’s coming from someone born and raised in New Orleans. Someone from Minnesota might come here and say, “OH LAWDY THAT’S SPICY! SO IS THE MAYONNAISE”!!!

The gumbo was ok. Nice color and seasoned pretty good.

The fried seafood was great. The shrimp were huge and they put a lot of catfish on the poboy. The only complaint we had was the poboys weren’t made with French bread. It was some kind of very soft and fresh roll, but as far as I’m concerned to be a poboy it MUST be on French! Also, besides dressing it with lettuce, pickles and tomatoes they add onions. That’s not normal but I liked it. My dining partner told them hold the onions. Oh, and the remoulade and tarter sauces they serve are very good!

The bread pudding had no raisins! I was happy. But it was a tad dense. I like it more custardy on the inside. Also, I don’t like my desserts too sweet, but I thought this one could have been sweeter. They didn’t skimp on the cinnamon but the sugar.

Pretty good lunch here today.
