Stuph’D Beignets & Burgers, New Orleans, LA Report #492

I’m pretty sure everyone knows what beignets are. Those wonderful pieces of fried dough sprinkled with powdered sugar. Thanks to the iconic Café du Monde, New Orleans is famous for them.

This place takes beignets to the next level, serving savory ones as well as sweet. We decided to sample both. For the savory we did a surf-n-turf thing, ordering the Philly Cheese Steak and the Creole Crawfish ones. For sweet, we went with apple and sweet potato pie filled. We also wanted to order some wings, but they were out.

===== THE FOOD =====

So we ordered a total of eight beignets. I can easily eat four Café du Monde beignets and still be hungry. That’s why I wanted to order wings. I thought this wouldn’t be enough food for a growing boy like me. I’m glad they didn’t have the wings. This was PLENTY! The beignets are pretty big.

The savory ones were delicious. I couldn’t believe the amount of crawfish in the crawfish ones. Those tails were packed in there, in a nice, creamy sauce.

As far as the sweet ones, the apple one wasn’t for me. I love apple pie, and thought it’d be filled with something like that cheap apple pie filling you get in a can. But they don’t go the cheap route here. It was filled with slices of sugared and cinnamoned apple, that were still a little crunchy. I like my apples like my women. Soft. Don’t get me wrong, it still was very good! Just not what I expected.

I liked the sweet potato one a lot better. Full of mashed deliciously spiced sweet potatoes.

Great lunch here today. I’m looking forward to coming back and trying their burgers and traditional beignets.
