Outpost 45, New Orleans, LA Report #693

Sometimes people will suggest a restaurant to me, I’ll write it down, and it may take me a year or two to get there. In this case, a good friend of mine told me about this joint at 2:30 PM. She made it sound so good at 2:45 PM I had 6:00 PM reservations, and at 5:50 PM I had my butt in a seat!

Nice looking place. Plenty of outside seating with some complimentary mosquito spray if you decided to sit out there.

We decided on:

*~*~*~*~*~ THE FOOD ~*~*~*~*~*

Crab Rangoon Dip
Muffuletta Eggrolls

Unlike the imitation crab meat you get in the crab rangoon in most Chinese restaurants, this dip had real crabmeat in it. It was pretty good but a little too rich for my taste. It was so cream cheesy it was kind of hard to taste the crab meat, but if you like rich things like that, you’d love this!

The muffuletta egg rolls were fantastic. They tasted exactly like a muffuletta, but inside a crispy shell instead of on bread, and they give you a bunch of them!

We decided to split the twin steaks for our entrée. Let me spell out what this dish consist of. Two 4oz USDA Prime steaks, and yes, you can order them done differently. My dining partner went with medium and I went with medium rare. A BBQ shrimp on top of each steak, and last, but oh so definitely not least, two big, triangular slabs of fried crawfish mac n cheese covered in a demi-glace.

This was one of the best dishes I’ve ever eaten. Both steaks were cooked perfectly and unbelievably tender. The slabs of mac n cheese were very crisp, very cheesy, and with plenty of crawfish. The sauce was fantastic, and I sliced up that half of grilled jalapeño on the plate and it went great with the steak and side! This is a must try dish.

That is all. Come here and eat.

  1. Thanks for the review! It’s closeby so I go every month or so. Agree that in some of the dishes they “pump some extra calories” in them that are not needed. The Caesar salad is one of the best I’ve ever had — fantastic dressing and even the croutons are excellent. When I first glanced at the picture of the twin steaks, I thought it said $11. Then I figured it out. When will I stop dreaming? ;-) That’s a great testament to the seriousness of the place that they did each little steak in the dish separately to your prefs. It’s absolutely impossible to leave hungry from here!
